Japjong is a modular and monospaced typeface inspired by Korean hangeul (the Korean alphabet). I developed a passion for Korean culture, especially k-pop, since I'm a teenager so I wanted to use my school assignment (create a monospaced typeface) as an opportunity to close the bridge between their culture and my own. Since I don't understand Korean the words look like shapes for me which, I thought, was an interesting approach to typography and I wanted to recreate this idea with a Latin alphabet.
Japjong is designed as a display font, very bold and strange. For the specimen, I decided to create moving posters inspired by Korean music. Each poster has their own musical identity and moves with the rhythm of the song. My intention was to show that the font I designed merge visually with actual Hangeul.
